The Delta Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. began as the Pearl Club, an interest group on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The purpose of this club was to organize a group of girls who were interested in forming a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha on their campus.

This group of women participated in a series of community service projects. These projects included presenting a Thanksgiving and Christmas basket to indigant families, visiting local mental health institutions and sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt at the Nora Stewart Day Care Center, a tradition that is continued today.

On November 14, 1964, due to the efforts of fifteen dynamic women, Alpha Kappa Alpha became the first black Greek sorority on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. This chapter seeks to fulfill the objectives of the sorority by sponsoring serivce projects on a continual basis and uplifting the morale of women on campus.
