The Slave Trade and Abolitionist Movement

The "peculiar institution" known as slavery had a devastating impact on both Afrika and the people who were stolen from the motherland. The stolen Afrikans were faced with the task of somehow surviving perilous labor while being forced to adapt to a society and culture not their own. Despite the adversity, our ancestors persevered and were able to escape the bonds of (the first stage of) slavery. Their courage, determination, heroism are a testiment to the greatness of our people. The following are just some of those who brought to fruition the dreams of our enslaved ancestors.
