The Slave Trade and Abolitionist
Movement
The "peculiar institution" known as slavery had a devastating
impact on both Afrika and the people who were stolen from the
motherland. The stolen Afrikans were faced with the task of somehow
surviving perilous labor while being forced to adapt to a society and
culture not their own. Despite the adversity, our ancestors persevered
and were able to escape the bonds of (the first stage of) slavery. Their
courage, determination, heroism are a testiment to the greatness of our
people. The following are just some of those who brought to
fruition the dreams of our enslaved
ancestors.
