Background

Known for their rich harmonies and fine showmanship, Add 9 is the University of Missouri's premier a cappella group. Since first developed in the 2004-2005 school year, Add 9 has grown both musically and publically, exploding both on and off of Mizzou's campus. The current members work hard in maintaining the group's tradition of excellence and musicianship, while building towards an even brighter future.

Add 9 performs at countless events across the Columbia area. Venues include singing the National Anthem at the Men's Basketball games, winning the Arts & Science Week Talent Show, performing at various college/department Alumni events, McDavid Spotlight concerts, the Columbia Mall Holiday concert, Fall Twilight Festival and more.

Our Mission Statement

To encourage a cappella ensemble singing typical of lower voice parts (tenor and bass) in a broad variety of styles and traditions; at the same time, to stimulate interest and growth in choral singing and the MU School of Music's Choral Department.

What does "Add 9" mean?

Add 9 is the name of a particular kind of chord usually consisting of a major triad, plus the 2nd scale degree an octave or more above the root. It's pretty.
