What started out as a good idea has grown into a phenomenal success. In 1994, Alpha Gamma Rho started a junior steer and heifer show. Over the past 12 years, the AGR Classic has grown into one of the Midwest’s premier cattle preview shows. The show has expanded to include a showmanship contest and youth livestock judging contest. In 2005, the AGR Classic had over 500 entries from nearly 330 exhibitors. The show continues to draw the highest quality livestock and exhibitors from over 10 states.
The AGR Classic is a community service project of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. The members supply all the labor and organizational needs of the show. The only expenses are for facility rental, judge’s salary, prize monies, and office supplies. The AGR Classic is a junior show, meaning only exhibitors 21 years of age and under and allowed. The show relies on donations and community support to fund prize monies; entry fees alone are not sufficient. All donations go directly to the exhibitors. In order to continue to draw top-notch exhibitors, Alpha Gamma Rho looks to agricultural supporters to help us continue to make the AGR Classic a positive experience for our exhibitors, both through competitive prize pay-outs and a well-organized event. In 2005, we paid out over $14,500 in premium monies.
