Fall
1. Peace Day: This was an event that took place at Mizzou in the past John Galliher, in the Peace Studies Dept, suggested the idea. We co-sponsored the event with STAND Mizzou: a student anti-genocide coalition. We sold necklaces made by women from Uganda through Beads for life (add link). In addition we invited Universal Drum Appeal, a band from Zimbabwe, to play during the lunch hour. (add pictures and news coverage)
2. Emmett Till Symposium: We co-hosted the event with other groups on campus, mainly with Dr. Clenora Hudson-Weems. The symposium was about… (add pictures and news coverage)
3. Taste of Africa: Nigeria and Catch a Fire Members in ASA cooked food from Nigeria. (add pictures and news coverage)
Spring
1. International Welcome Party: The International Welcome party is sponsored with Missouri International Student Council and International Programming Committee. It is an opportunity for international student groups to welcome new incoming international students and scholars. The new students and scholars come out for an evening of food and fun and they mingle with other new students/scholars as well as those currently enrolled. o
2. Africa Week: This is the most crucial event of the year. This year was difficult. We only had 3 days! And even with that, a lot of our members did not show up for the events. We did Taste of Africa: Ghana, as the day fell of their independence. I invite KC Morrison’s class, that had just came from Ghana to come speak. We didn’t have a lot of help so Doris and I cooked all the food. But we were able to invite the Lincoln chapter to come down and they come to support us (add pictures and news coverage)
3. Alternative Spring Break- Students spent the week in Philadelphia working in low income ereas. The students worked with school to learn about frustrations in the education system in urban areas. While there, they also volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club and help children with their homework.
4 The World Cup-This event was part of International Education Week. In planning for it we contacted the rec center and booked the rec center, make sure to do this well in advance- 4 weeks The rec will provide balls, tables, a grill, trash cans (add pictures and news coverage
