The Roller
Hockey Club is a co-ed organization that only discriminates
based on skill of the player at hockey.
Everyone who
would like to play college hockey is encouraged to tryout.
Division I
roster is limited to approximately 10 skaters and 2 goalies.
Division II
roster is limited to approximately 12 skaters and 2 goalies.
All roster
spots are open every year. No preference is given to returning
players.
Teams are
selected by the captains, who were elected by their team
mates the previous year.
Team Tryouts
Team tryouts
are held every year in September.
Tryouts are
mandatory for all new and returning players.
Tryouts usually
run 2 to 3 days. A prospective player may be required
to skate as many as five hours on any given day (prior
notice will be given).
Tryout format
is at the discretion of the captains, who were elected
by their peers at the close of the previous year and function
as coaches for the team.
Captains are
elected based on leadership qualities and dedication to
the team.
Player Commitments
There are
usually 2 to 4 practices per week.
League games
are played approximately every other weekend. There is
not a rink in the City of Columbia so all games require
traveling (Car pooling and vans are available).
Additionally
dry-land practices and physical conditioning may be required
at the discretion of the captains.
Financial
obligation is $300 U.S. dollars upon being selected
to
the team. Additionally, the league charges an extra $30
U.S. dollars for supplementary insurance.
