What is libertarianism?
"Libertarianism is a philosophy. The basic premise of libertarianism is that each individual should be free to do as he or she pleases so long as he or she does not harm others. In the libertarian view, societies and governments infringe on individual liberties whenever they tax wealth, create penalties for victimless crimes, or otherwise attempt to control or regulate individual conduct which harms or benefits no one except the individual who engages in it." This was the definition written by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (!), during the process of granting the Advocates for Self-Government status as a non-profit educational organization.

Who are the MU Campus Libertarians?
We are libertarians (as well as some learning about libertarianism) who have organized on the campus of the University of Missouri. We are committed to the ideas of individual and economic liberty and personal responsibility. The purpose of our organization proper is to help spread information about these principals through meetings, social events, and other activities. It is our goal to engage MU students and the community in conversation and understanding of these principles in terms of public policy and personal ethics.
