What We Do

The soul of our activities in the MRS is re-creation.  To help us along, each of us chooses a medieval person that we might have been.  This includes choosing a medieval name and deciding what culture and time period you wish to be from.  We call this process creating a persona

Ideas for Persona Creation and many other ideas for those just starting out in the SCA, as presented by Countess Alix in Good Gentles All.
Okay, so now you've created a persona.  What other activities can you do?
Attending your first event? Here are some ideas and general advice to help make the most of the experience.
More event advice, this batch from Countess Alix, as presented in Good Gentles All. It includes more specifics than the previous link.

Besides local activities, we also participate in weekend re-creation events with other SCA groups.  These events are usually centered around a theme, and there are one or more within easy driving distance almost every weekend of the year.

Here is Lady Jahanara's event description and some of her event pictures.

If you're interested in attending an event, check the Kingdom of Calontir's home page for a link to the kingdom events calendar.

Need a ride to an event?  The Shire of Standing Stones' home page has a link for ride-sharing.

Several times a year it's possible to attend huge events lasting a week or more.   These are known as "wars."  The War of the Lilies is held near Kansas City every year in June, but others take place at various times and in various places.

Here is Lady Jahanara's description of why she finds wars to be so much fun.

Also, because we like teaching others about the Middle Ages, several times a year we do "demos" for schools and other groups.  These may include fighting, dancing, or just talking about the Middle Ages.  Anybody who wants to help out at a demo is encouraged to do so, and upcoming demos are announced at our weekly meetings and through the Standing Stones e-mail list.
