University of Missouri Medieval Re-enactment Society Constitution

Article I - Name

The name of this organization shall be the MU Medieval Re-enactment Society.

Article II - Purpose

The overall purpose of the MRS is to organize students with an interest in medieval and Renaissance history from the years 600-1600 CE. However, we also have three integrated goals, which further focus our activity.

  • To establish a social network of MRS students for the exploration and examination of historical experience.
  • To provide a communication network between the MRS at the University of Missouri - Columbia and both college medieval societies and our parent organization, the Society for Creative Anachronisms, Inc.
  • To program events reflecting and revealing the rich traditions of medieval and Renaissance culture, history, and philosophies to give mainstream society a more complete picture of the world as it existed pre-1600 CE.

Article III - Membership

  • All those who became members of this organization during the fall semester of 2002 shall be known as charter members.
  • Membership shall be open to any student who is currently enrolled at the University of Missouri - Columbia; faculty or staff may be ex-officio or honoree members.
  • No dues are required to obtain or maintain active membership.

Article IV - Executive

  • The executive power of the MRS shall be vested in the President.
  • The executive board shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Historian, Treasurer, and Committee Chairs.

Article V - Committees

  • Each committee shall have the option of being co-chaired by two appointed members of the MRS.
  • Standing committees include but are not limited to the Social Committee, Outreach and Programming Committee, and Promotions Committee.

Article VI - Amendments

  • Any member of the organization may present amendments to the By-Laws and Constitution at any business meeting. After reading the current Constitution and By-Laws, along with proposed changes for two consecutive meetings, changes will be voted on. A simple majority is needed to pass an amendment. Two thirds of the membership is required to maintain a quorum.
  • Amendments to the Constitution must be submitted to and approved by the Coordinator for Student Organizations before they become effective.

Article VII - Non-Discrimination

This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, disability, status as a disabled veteran or veteran of the Vietnam era.
