What does 23 News have in store this year? The question may more aptly be what don’t we have in store! As always we hold our obligation to bringing our audience the most substantive and comprehensive coverage of the new to be our foremost goal. Keeping MU students abreast of campus events and developments is paramount for everyone on the 23 News staff. But aside from imparting unrelenting coverage of local and national news we plan to incorporate broader aspects to engage the larger public. We hope to expand into new forms of media including more online content. Also we plan to bring more exclusive interviews with public officials as well as members of the entertainment industry.
Our news team is lead by Samantha McClendon the News Director (junior –Broadcast Journalism) and Nick Berry the Executive Producer (sophomore- Broadcast Journalism). Samantha is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and has been a writer for The Industry Probate Magazine, and a reporter for the Southern Digest Newspaper, Channel 21 Blue Jay News and now still currently reports for MUTV. Samantha states that our goals for this year are to “represent Mizzou in a more diverse light” and “ improve the overall news coverage at the university.” Nick is from Stamford, Connecticut and has been working in video production for over 4 years. In that time, he has started a high school television station, worked for News 12 Connecticut, KOMU 8, and started a production company streaming recruitment videos online for high school athletes to give to sports scouts. In the past year, Nick Berry has worked for MUTV's 23News. During this time, he has interviewed former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Gold Medalist Swimmer Ossauma Melluli, and took part in the live Barack Obama broadcast.
Great leadership coupled with the largest group of reporters we’ve ever had affords us the opportunity to obtain every goal we’ve set out to achieve. Fortunately, the by-product of that success is a better show for the audience and a great way for students to stay informed! So make sure to check out 23 News on MUTV!
