Words for our Future

Elizabeth Hogan (President) writes:

As next year's president of Iota Lambda, As president during the coming year, I want to continue the work that Iota Lambda has begun during the past few years, and expand on ideas which will carry us into the next 100 years of SAI. We have a strong sisterhood with members who desire to positivly affect their community through music. My goal is to develop Sigma Alpha Iota into an entity which provides that opportunity. I want to guide the chapter into a stronger sisterhood through participation in service projects. I also strive to bring the focus of our chapter back to making and listening to music. Sigma Alpha Iota provides an opportunity for adolescents to grow into strong, uplifting women with a passion for music and life. It is my duty as president to see that this is happening here in our chapter.

Chelsey Soo (VP Membership) writes:

While sitting down to write this I find myself already lost in the stress that will be my life for the next year serving as the VP membership. When trying to express my goals for the year I find it best to look back upon my speech from last semester. One of my main goals that I set for myself was that MITs should no longer be viewed merely as a way to increase our numbers. In the past it seems as though Iota Lambdas main goal has been to increase the numbers of members, since, of course, with more members more can be accomplished. I prefer to view new members as a chance to change SAI. With every new member comes a new idea that none of us would have thought of. If Fran and Kristan had not been a part of SAI in their last years at MU we would not have the male pageant which could become a new yearly tradition for us. I know that I have a great deal of goals swimming around in my head but right now that seems to be the one that is standing out. And sisterhood of course, always sisterhood.

Susan Crouch (VP Ritual) writes:

As Vice President of Ritual, my main duty is to organize our chapter so we have an active participation in the rituals annually performed, such as pledge induction, sister initiation, and senior farewell. After meeting with our current President, Ms. Elizabeth Hogan, who recently returned from the SAI annual convention, I was struck by how moved she was by the rituals performed there. My goal for this year, then, is to work with the Seargent of Arms and the fraternity education to educate our chapter on the true purpose and meaning behind our rituals. Everytime a ritual is performed, I want our chapter to be moved the same way Elizabeth Hogan was, and for each member to feel a stronger emotional connection to this sisterhood.

Tarrah Weeks (Treasurer) writes:

As the new treasurer of SAI, I see many gaols for myself to obtain. One of these goals is to get my fellow sisters excited about fundraising. I know people tend to shy away from this word "fundraising" because it means parting with a very scarce resource for most college students. I want to stay away from bad fundraisers which include those that cost a lot and do not bring in a lot of money, and fundraisers that turn each member into a door to door saleswoman. Our chapter has plans to do four fundraisers. 1.) Our carwash for Xaing Gao 2.) A Raffle for $500 3.) Golden Corral night 4.) T-shirt sales at the state music festival. A second goal I have is to make our chapter's treasury completely computerized. I have already begun the process with a program on Quicken and I will continue with this to make sure it is an easy format for future treasurers. This chapter is going to have the finances to do fun things, philanthropies, and cut dues, so money will no longer be an issue and stability becomes key.
