Many students enter the workforce for the first time when enrolled in college. Employment is a contract entered into between the employee and employer, but most employment contracts are not in writing. Without a written employment contract, an employer can usually fire someone at any time for no reason. However, under certain circumstances an employer may only fire an employee for good cause according to the employer's established rules and regulations, or where state or federal discrimination laws were violated.
If you believe you were fired or discriminated against based on race, sex, color, religion, national origin, disability, or age (if you are between 40 and 70), you may file a complaint of discrimination with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights or the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
