This is the second year Sustain Mizzou, in partnership with Anheuser-Busch's "Green Team" program, will participate in a tailgate recycling program called “Tiger Tailgate Recycling”.  Last Fall this project collected over 20 tons of recyclables over the six home games, and Sustain Mizzou logged over 500 volunteer hours.

Tiger Tailgate recycling works to empower tailgaters to recycle their own recyclables by distributing bags to all the tailgaters a few hours before the game.  Volunteers talk to the tailgaters about recycling and answer any questions that they have.  By the end of the season tailgaters begin to recognize the" Green Team" volunteers and ask for a specific number of bags!!

Volunteers will service the 250 plus recycling bins around the stadium during the game to make sure they do not overflow during the half time rush.  These bins are very successful and more bins will be used in the future.

After the game, volunteers use two golf carts and a pickup, all provided by Landscape Services, to collect all the bags that are handed out. Bags are then put in the roll-off recycling container behind the stadium.  The city’s recycling program will haul off the container the following Monday.

All in all, this program is a great success.  We help to educate thousands of tailgaters about recycling, help to remove over 20 tons from the waste stream, and help clean up the tailgating sites.
