Philanthropy is a big part of every Zeta's life. We pride ourselves on raising money to benefit Breast Cancer Education and Research. Our chapter has taken many strides in the amount of service and activities we do both on campus and off. Our philanthropy is very important to us, and we make sure to make our activities benefitting our philanthropy happen throughout the year rather than having just one week devoted to it.
Royal 21 Washers Tournament
The Local philanthropy of Zeta Tau Alpha, a washers tournament, is called Royal 21. Washers is a game in which metal washers are thrown into a wooden box; each area of the box has a different point value. The first team to 21 points wins. Along with the washers tournament we hold a BBQ, and this year we also sold pies to "pie a Zeta". The philanthropy is open to all community members, and raises money toward our national philanthropy. For questions about our phlianthropy, or if you would like to participate or sponsor, please contact Allison Singh, our philanthropy chair. This year we raised over $5,000 for our philanthropy. CONGRATS TO KA FOR WINNING OUR WASHERS TOURNAMENT THIS YEAR! CONGRATS TO SIG NU FOR WINNING SECOND PLACE IN THE TOURNAMENT AND SIG TAU/SIG NU FOR PLACING THIRD IN THE TOURNAMENT.
Susan G Komen and Race for the Cure
ZTA began an association with The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1992 when it became the first national sponsor of the Race for the Cure®’s National Series Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program. Since that year, ZTA has continually served as a national sponsor of the Survivor Recognition Program. In the early 1990s, ZTA co-sponsored this program for three years with Kellogg. In 2002, RE/MAX replaced Kellogg as ZTA’s co-sponsor. ZTA provides the signature pink T-shirts and caps for participants to wear during the race. As part of the Survivor Program, ZTA also provides pink “In Memory Of” and “In Celebration Of” back signs for participants to wear during the Race for theCure® events so they may race in honor of a friend or loved one. The ZTA Foundation also provides an educational item for each Race participant, such as the ZTA Breast-Self Examination (BSE) Calendar Reminder Stickers.
On behalf of ZTA, the Foundation has donated more than $1.6 million to The Susan G. Komen Foundation since 1992. Additionally, more than 5,000 Zetas volunteer in excess of 50,000 hours each year to support the more than 100 Komen Race for the Cure® events nationwide. Zeta Tau Alpha facilitates its local efforts through a ZTA Race Representative at each Race.

Zeta and Yoplait Pair up!
Zeta and Yoplait™ teamed up last year to bring the Save Lids, Save Lives campaign to campuses across the nation. The Alpha Psi Chapter was selected to be one of the starting chapters to launch this campaign, and successfully raised over 3000 lids to benefit the Susan G Komen foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research as well as the Zeta Foundation. This year the campaign was an even bigger success, raising approximately 4500 lids to help fight the battle against breast cancer. We will continue to work with Yoplait and collect lids across campus and in our chapter.
Stand Up Stand Out
Stand up Stand Out is the newest campaign that Zeta Tau Alpha has to offer. In partnership with the Kappa Delta Sorority, Zeta invited all sorority women to a night of inspiration. Mrs. Cathy Scroggs and Mrs. Kim Dude, both sorority alumni, gave speeches on women's empowerment and how sorority women can make a difference.
Party With a Purpose
This past March we hosted our third annual Party With a Purpose. Members of our chapter, along with women from the community, came to listen to two guest speakers, Dr. Ed Souter, an Oncologist, and Sharon McGuire, a breast cancer survivor. We also decorated water bottles for Ellis Fischel and sold pink ribbon cookies to finish out the evening.
Think Pink® is Zeta's Registered Trademark
In February 2004 the ZTA foundation adopted the phrase "Think Pink" as our own registered trademark. All of our philanthropy activities revolve around this trademark and help to further promote our goals of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Zeta and the NFL form a Team
In the fall, Zetas from Mizzou and UMSL went to a St. Louis Rams game and handed out pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness. Zeta and the NFL have been a team officially since 2001, but Zetas have been handing out pink ribbons at various NFL games across the country since 1999. All together we have handed out over 500,000 ribbons to football fans across the nation.
